Located at the Larry & Penny Thompson Park & Campground, 12451 sw 184 street, miami - 305-232-1049. "Come Camp With Us" - The
Music In The Park Series continues on this Holiday weekend in this lovely 350 acre park in South Miami Dade. And what a great afternoon and evening it will be! We´ll start off with an open mike from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. so campers, RV´ers, neighbors and
other park visitors can show their stuff. Then we will fill four hours with some of South Florida´s best string instrument
players and Florida´s First Lady Of Folk, Valerie C. Wisecracker. To top it off, we´ll end the show with audience participation
in Contra Dancing. Like square dancing except each couple moves up or down the line so you have a new four person square after
the routine; don´t worry, we´ll teach you. Then, a campfire song circle from 7 to 9 P.M. They´ll be food for sale in case you
won´t be staying in the park. Walk-ins and drive-ins welcome. Come celebrate!
Valeric C. Wisecracker
One our most dedicated, accomplished and knowledgeable performers, Val is a mainstay and driving force behind the growth folk
music is enjoying in South Florida; she nurtured this organization for many years and has been instrumental in its
revitalization. Val fronted the original folk spoof band Jabberwocky for over twenty years; she was one of the founders of the locally produced and longest running Public Radio show Pandemonium. She has shared the stage with some of the nations best such as John Hartford, John McCutcheon, Christine Lavin, Michael Johnson, Michael Smith, Cozy Sheridan and many more. Don´t miss this original and
delightful Florida treasure.
The Flying Turtles & Warren Pollans
Tom and Ellen are the Flying Turtles. Tom´s history began with the folk scene in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in the Sixties continuing through the seventies and eighties with journeys into touring
with people like Emmy Lou Harris and Little Feat, the Texas and Providence Blues Scene in the 90s and rediscovering the joy of just playing music in the 2000s. Ellen´s mother was a ragtime piano player and Ellen was a music major in college and played jazz
piano in Boston in the 70s. She studied cello and played in a classical orchestra in Santa Barbara, Ca before moving back east
and marrying Tom, who finally got her hooked on Old Time String band fiddle tunes!
Malcolm Mckinney
In 2003 Malcolm McKinney returned to performing acoustic music and writing in the folk/country genre. Active from 1964 through 1986, his songs "Don´t Cry Blue," "Sometimes in the Morning", and more have been recorded and sung by Jonathan Edwards, Bill and Bonnie Hearne, Grass, Food, and Lodging, and others. Malcolm´s song "We Won´t Hear the Everglades Cry" is a top ten non-cash winner in the Will McLean 2004 songwriting contest
Murphy´s Law String Band
Father Bob, Mother Cathy Daughter Caitlin and Son Seamus make up one very musically talented and busy family. Seamus has been
state fiddler champ several times. They pay respects to their Irish roots but you´re just as likely to hear Cajun, old time and
many other genres from them. This year was their 17th at the Florida Folk Festival in White Springs. This family is a folk music
legend.
